Democratic Lawmakers Demand White House Remove Election Security Czar
Democratic senators, led by Senator Alex Padilla, are urging the White House to dismiss Kurt Olsen, the election security czar, as his appointment exceeds the legal limit for special government employees. Olsen, a Trump appointee, has been involved in controversial efforts related to the 2020 election and voter fraud investigations.
A group of Democratic lawmakers is urging the removal of Kurt Olsen, the White House's election security czar, due to his position exceeding the legal service limit for special government employees. Led by Senator Alex Padilla of California, the lawmakers sent a letter to the White House demanding clarity on the legal justification of Olsen's continued role.
Under U.S. law, special government employees are limited to 130 days of service within a 365-day period. Olsen, a Washington attorney appointed by Trump, allegedly exceeded that time frame. Despite requests for comment, the White House remains silent on the matter involving the attorney linked to the "Stop the Steal" campaign following Trump's electoral defeat in 2020.
Padilla and other senators have expressed concerns over Olsen's activities, including pushing for voter fraud investigations and influencing federal election processes. With his oversight, an executive order signed by Trump in 2025 is pushing states to share voter data and potentially decertify voting machines.
