Khanduri's contribution to Uttarakhand's development will always be remembered: Nitin Nabin

BJP president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday condoled the demise of former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and said his contribution to the state's development journey will always be remembered.

Khanduri, 91, died at a private hospital in Dehradun on Tuesday, following a prolonged illness. The veteran BJP leader breathed his last around 11 am, his daughter and Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan said.

In a post on X in Hindi, Nabin said, ''The news about the demise of the BJP's senior leader and former chief minister of Uttarakhand, Major General Bhuwan Chand Khanduri (Retd.), is extremely heartbreaking.''.

He devoted his entire life to the service of the nation and the highest ideals of good governance, the BJP chief said.

''His contribution to Uttarakhand's journey of development and his role as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways in the Union government will always be remembered,'' the BJP chief said, adding, ''I pray to God to grant the departed soul a place at His holy feet and provide strength to the bereaved family during this difficult time.''.

BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni expressed grief over Khanduri's demise and said it is an irreparable loss for Uttarakhand and the country.

Baluni said Khanduri devoted his entire life to the nation's service, good governance, honest politics and the development of Uttarakhand.

''With his simplicity, dedication to duty, and unwavering commitment to his principles, he established an ideal in public life. His contribution to the creation and development of Uttarakhand state will remain unforgettable forever,'' the Garhwal MP said in a post on X in Hindi.

''I pray to Lord Badrivishal to grant the noble soul a place at His divine feet and bestow strength upon the bereaved family and supporters to bear this unbearable grief,'' the BJP leader added.
