Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that his ''remote control'' is with US President Donald Trump.
The LoP was on a visit to his Lok Sabha constituency Raebareli and party bastion Amethi.
Addressing Congress workers at Khiron in Harchandpur assembly constituency of Raebareli, Gandhi criticised the Central government, pointing out that it asks the country's farmers, labourers and small traders to buy electric vehicles when people do not even get enough food or jobs.
''I don't know what the prime minister is dreaming about when he asks the country to buy electric vehicles. We can't even get cooking gas to prepare meals at home. The prime minister is asking people not to go abroad or buy gold. I have no idea in what world this man is living in,'' the former Congress president said.
He said the ''remote control'' of the prime minister lies in America's hands.
''You must have heard Donald Trump's speech. He says, 'Look here, I could finish his career in two minutes'. Meanwhile, the Epstein files remain closed. Modi goes abroad 24 hours (a day) in an attempt to save himself -- sometimes to save (himself) from America, sometimes to visit Norway. He folds his hands and tells them, 'Please forgive me, do not open the Epstein files. Or, there is a case against Adani ji, please close it','' Gandhi said.
He claimed that a deal had been struck with the US, under which the prime minister snatched everything from India and handed it over to America.
''Take it in writing. In the near future, Adani's case currently pending in the US will be dismissed. Why? Because Narendra Modi has sold out India, along with its poor, its farmers, labourers, unemployed youth, our data and everything to America -- all to get Adani's case closed. Modi has handed over our entire agricultural system to America. Very shortly, the Adani case will be dismissed by Donald Trump,'' he said.
Gandhi claimed that Modi has ''surrendered our data'' and offered to purchase goods worth Rs 9.5 lakh crore from the US.
''The prime minister has compromised our energy security. Why? Only to save himself from the Adani case,'' he said.
The LoP said that electricity, petrol and gas will become more expensive, as there is a war going on between the US and Iran.
''Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the US has attacked the country and dropped bombs over it. As a result, the price of oil (stock) in the world has increased so quickly,'' he said.
The senior Congress leader pointed out that the suffering caused by Centre's policies over the last 12 years would not be borne by industrialists but by farmers, labourers, small traders and the youth.
''I say this every day. Narendra Modi ji, start taking action. Begin helping and protecting the farmers, small traders and youth. Otherwise, the country will face an immense loss. Modi ji looks this way and that way, but takes no action,'' he said.
Addressing Congress workers, Gandhi said it was now their responsibility to take this ''truth'' to the people and tell them that the BJP leadership had ''sold the country'' to save itself.
''When BJP workers stand before you, tell them that they and their leaders are traitors. Tell them they made a deal with America to save their leader and sold Hindustan,'' he said.
He also attacked a section of the media, alleging that issues concerning farmers, unemployment and inflation were being ignored.
''You will never see in the media about farmers dying of hunger or the unemployment increasing. But they will show you weddings of corporates, film stars dancing and singing, and cricket 24 hours a day,'' he alleged.
Later, addressing a Mahila Samvad programme held at Sareni assembly constituency, Gandhi said that during an interaction with women, he found that a major issue faced by anganwadi workers was their ''very low'' salaries.
He pointed out that a Congress government was formed in Kerala on Monday, and on its very first day, the state government increased the wages of anganwadi and ASHA workers.
Wherever the Congress is in power, Gandhi asserted, the party works for the women, the poor, farmers and labourers, whereas the BJP governments work only for industrialists.
