Newly elected members of the Union Territory of Puducherry took oath as MLAs on Wednesday, with Chief Minister N Rangasamy being the first to do so.

The legislators took oath as MLAs in the presence of pro-tem Speaker A Anbalagan in the 30-member House.

Besides Rangasamy, legislators belonging to the AINRC, BJP, AIADMK, DMK, Congress and Independents took the oath one by one in the languages of their choice--Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or English.

After the swearing in ceremony Anbalagan adjourned the proceedings of the House sine die.

The AINRC-led NDA had won the April 9 elections.

The chief minister had successfully contested from Thattanchavady and Mangalam constituencies and Rangasamy has resigned from the former.
