A young woman climbed a mobile tower in the Kotwali Nagar police station area on Wednesday, demanding the release of her lover who is lodged in jail, police said.
The incident took place near Charu Nursing Home in Balipur locality, where the woman climbed the tower and remained there for several hours, triggering a commotion in the area.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (City) Prashant Raj Hooda said the woman, a private sanitation worker and a resident of Maheshganj area, was in a relationship with one Ankit Gautam.
During the relationship, the woman became pregnant and asked Gautam to marry her, but he allegedly pressured her to undergo abortion, the officer said.
The woman refused and lodged a complaint against Gautam at Kunda police station. Gautam, a resident of Bhaisna village under Maheshganj police station area, was arrested on April 24 and sent to jail, Hooda said.
On Wednesday, the woman climbed the mobile tower demanding Gautam's release, he said.
Police personnel, after prolonged efforts, persuaded her to come down from the tower and were counselling her, Hooda said.
