Police given 'free hand' to take action against criminals in Bihar: CM Samrat Choudhary

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday said the police have been given ''free hand'' to take action against criminals in the state.

He said if any criminal dared to challenge the security personnel, the police would respond within 48 hours.

The CM, who holds the Home department portfolio, said that the state government was committed to maintaining 'sushasan' (good governance) and rule of law. The objective is to keep Bihar free from crime, he said.

''The NDA government has given the police a free hand…maintaining 'sushasan' in the state is the commitment of the government. There will be no compromise on good governance…the rule of law is prevailing in the state. If anyone dares to challenge the police, they have been asked to respond within 48 hours,'' he said while speaking at a function at police headquarters here.

In an apparent reference to RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav's allegation that police action was targeting people belonging to a particular caste, the CM said, ''Such allegations don't make any sense at all. We believe in good governance. There will be no compromise with law and order, and we will take action against criminals. Anyone trying to disturb law and order should be dealt with strictly as per the law.''.

Apparently, the CM was referring to Yadav's recent comment in which he alleged that ''caste-based encounters'' are being carried out in Bihar.

Bihar needs investment, and for this, good governance is essential, the CM said.

''With the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji, Bihar is developing at a fast pace. We are committed to boosting the industrial sector. The entire system has undergone a transformation. By November 20, 2026, we want investment of around Rs 5 lakh crore in Bihar,'' he said.

Further, elaborating on welfare measures being taken by the state government for the police personnel, Choudhry said, ''The welfare of police personnel and their families is the top priority of the NDA government in the state. The state government has taken several initiatives for police welfare.''.

The government is concerned about the deaths of police personnel caused by accidents and illnesses. Bank of Baroda has provided cheques amounting to a total of Rs 37.50 crore as insurance and grant assistance to the dependents of 61 deceased police officers/personnel of Bihar Police, Choudhary said.

He further said that modern schools would be opened in all police lines across Bihar. These schools will provide education, uniforms, and other essential facilities to the children of police personnel, he added.
