The Congress on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is distributing 'Melody' toffees abroad and giving ''lollypops'' of Viksit Bharat by 2047 to Indians.

Congress leader Pawan Khera said this ''lollypop'' of Viksit Bharat is a flop as no one believes in it, and urged the prime minister to either rope in a good advisor to provide him 'margdarshan' (guidance) or become a member of the 'margdarshak mandal', which he created for veteran BJP leaders soon after assuming power.

''Distributing 'melody' abroad and lollipop at home… The slogan of 'Viksit Bharat 2047' is a flop too,'' Khera said in a post on X.

In a video attached to the post, Khera said no one believes in Modi's dreams any more as he has been giving that to people for the last 12 years.

He said earlier, Modi said he wanted 60 days and then changed the goalpost to 60 weeks and then 60 years, but never fulfilled the promises of giving a home to every household by 2022 or doubling farmers' income by 2022.

He added that Modi has coined the slogan of 'Viksit Bharat 2047' even when he is unable to provide petrol to people for going to office, and is asking them to work from home instead.

''No one has any interest in your lollypop. Talking about foreign policy, there is no friend of yours other than the Taliban, and you have made Iran your enemy, and the country is short of fuel supplies.

''With folded hands, we request you to either have a new advisor who can give 'margdarshan' to you, or else you go to the 'margdarshak mandal' yourself,'' Khera said in the video message.

The Congress has been critical of PM Modi's policies, including foreign policy, which it claims is hurting people with unemployment and price rise.

Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni recently thanked Modi for gifting her 'Melody' toffees during his visit to Rome, reviving the light-hearted ''Melodi'' wordplay associated with the two leaders on social media.
