Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said people's blessings and love matter the most to him and not big posts and power.

He was speaking at a gathering organised by a group of his friends here.

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways who started his political journey from Nagpur decades ago spoke about the various welfare projects undertaken by him, including the projects in tribal areas of eastern Maharashtra.

''Thousands of people come to my Janta Durbar programmes....I do not ask them if they voted (for me). If there is something I can do, I say yes, if I cannot, then I say no. And my experience has been good, I have received love from across the country. And why should one want big posts like President or Prime Minister? The people's love is the greatest thing,'' he said.

He has always worked for people irrespective of caste, creed and religion and does not discriminate, the BJP leader further said.

When people from Nagpur visit other parts of the country, they are not charged by hotel owners and others after learning where they hail from, Gadkari said.

''People come and share this experience with me. In Arunachal (Pradesh), Meghalaya, Tripura so many people show such affection that they won't take money if a person says he is from Nagpur. So many people come and tell me this, and this blessing and love from people is the greatest asset in life,'' he said.
