The Jharkhand Police registered an FIR against 42 people and detained three persons in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man during a clash over land dispute in Palamu district a day ago, a senior officer said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday in Rampur village under the Chainpur Police station limits.
''We registered a case against 42 people. Of them, 17 are named as accused, including the main culprit. Raids are underway to seize arms used in the crime and apprehend them,'' Medininagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajesh Kumar Yadav told PTI.
The police are interrogating the detained persons, and the accused will soon be apprehended, the SDPO said.
The incident occurred when one Rajendra Singh and his relatives reportedly damaged the boundary wall of a plot owned by Shushila Kunwar, but her neighbours had a dispute over the land parcel.
Singh and his relatives attacked Kunwar's family members, beat them with sticks and then fired.
Kunwar's relative Sikandar Choudhary was shot dead, and four other family members were injured.
Three of the injured persons suffered gunshot wounds, while the other was beaten with sticks.
The injured persons have been undergoing treatment at Medinirai Medical College and Hospital, the officer said.
