Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday announced aid of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of three persons who lost their lives in the movement to have the Bhojshala complex here declared as a temple.

He expressed gratitude to the families of Pant Singh, Antar Singh and Laxman Singh, an official said, adding that a moment of silence was observed for the three martyrs of the movement.

The Bhojshala complex was in the midst of a dispute for decades as the Hindu community believed it was a temple dedicated to goddess Saraswati, while the Muslim community claimed the structure was Kamal Maula mosque.

On May 15, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Dhar district is a temple dedicated to goddess Saraswati, while simultaneously quashing a decades-old ASI order that allowed the Muslim community to offer Friday prayers at the site.

At the time, Hindu petitioners had claimed it was a victory for the community after a long 700-year struggle.
