Navigating Global Crises: Vietnam's To Lam Speaks at Shangri-La Dialogue

At Asia's leading defense forum, the Shangri-La Dialogue, Vietnam's top leader, To Lam, addressed the global community with a clear message: multiple crises demand a coordinated international response. Speaking on Friday, Lam identified pressing challenges like the erosion of international laws, climate change, and an emerging crisis of trust among nations.

Lam asserted that the world's current crises are not unavoidable and urged countries to strengthen international laws, drive inclusive growth, and promote transparency through dialogue. The annual Singapore-based event runs until Sunday and hosts a variety of global defense figures, including ministers, generals, and diplomats.

Notably absent from the event was China's Dong Jun, marking the second consecutive year of his absence. Australia's Defence Minister Richard Marles expressed that China's limited presence—a representation by experts—missed a significant opportunity for international engagement. To Lam, newly installed as Vietnam's President and Communist Party chief, now holds a pivotal role in Vietnam's international diplomacy.
