A swift response by the public and migrant workers helped mitigate casualties during a perilous fire at a shophouse in Singapore's River Valley Road. The quick-thinking actions of bystanders were crucial in saving lives, according to reports by Channel News Asia.

The fire resulted in injuries to 16 children, aged 6 to 10, and six adults, aged 23 to 55. Among the injured was Mark Shankar, the young son of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Tragically, a 10-year-old Australian girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Dr. Fua Tzay-Ping, a consultant from Singapore General Hospital's Department of Emergency Medicine, lauded the efforts of the public and migrant workers, expressing sadness for those affected. The medical staff faced an emotionally challenging task, handling critical pediatric cases while managing logistical hurdles. Videos of the rescue, featuring victims precariously perched on a ledge, highlighted the dire situation.
