A tragic accident claimed the lives of six members of a family when their car overturned and caught fire on the Jahangirabad–Bulandshahr road early Wednesday morning. The incident left Tanveer Ahmad, a resident of south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, devastated.
The vehicle was returning to Delhi from a wedding in Badaun, carrying Ahmad's children and relatives. Police suggest the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the vehicle to hit a culvert. Among those killed were Ahmad's son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and a toddler grandson.
Fifteen-year-old Gulnaz survived but sustained critical injuries. Her quick thinking allowed her to give Ahmad's phone number to a passerby who informed him of the accident. The family had set off early to beat Delhi's notorious traffic, a decision that led to the tragedy.
