Kashmir Heatwave: Scorching Temperatures Reach New Highs
Kashmir is experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, breaking 20-year records in several regions. Srinagar recorded its hottest June day in two decades at 35.2°C. Qazigund and Kokernag also faced extreme temperatures, while Gulmarg remained relatively cooler. Pahalgam stayed just under the 30°C mark, according to IMD data.

The Kashmir Valley is enduring an extraordinary heatwave, surpassing two-decade-old temperature records. Several areas, including Srinagar, witnessed their hottest June day in 20 years, climbing to 35.2 degrees Celsius, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On Thursday, Qazigund experienced its hottest day in 37 years, reaching 34.7 degrees Celsius. This supersedes the previous record high of 35.7 degrees Celsius observed on June 26, 1988. Kokernag also reported soaring temperatures with 33.8 degrees Celsius, coming close to its record high recorded in June 2005.
In contrast, the popular tourist destination of Gulmarg was the coldest in the Valley at 25.9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Pahalgam, known for the Amarnath Yatra, remained below the 30-degree threshold at 29.6 degrees Celsius, but still stood 5.5 notches above the seasonal average, according to the IMD.
