Nearly 50% of car owners in Delhi oppose the government's upcoming policy that will ban fuel supply to older vehicles in an effort to combat air pollution, according to a recent survey. The policy, effective from July 1, 2025, will prevent petrol pumps from refuelling diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old.

The survey, conducted by LocalCircles, reveals that 44% of participants oppose the move, arguing that their vehicles are in good shape and have low mileage. The decision, supported by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), has raised questions about its effectiveness given the current state of public transport.

Many vehicle owners feel unjustly targeted. While some plan to sell their cars in other states, others consider alternative refuelling methods. As the rule may extend to NCR regions by November 2025, the debate on pollution control and transport infrastructure continues.
