With the monsoon season looming, Delhi's civic agencies are racing against time to finish crucial desilting work. According to a statement released on Monday, the Public Works Department (PWD) has completed 82% of its desilting target, while the Irrigation and Flood Control Department claims full completion of major drains.

Waterlogging severely disrupts traffic in the capital each year during the monsoon. To tackle this, the PWD, which manages over 2,148 kilometers of the city's drainage network, executed the work in 35 separate packages this year, aiming for a waterlogging-free Delhi.

The PWD plans a third-party audit of the desilting operations, with institutions like IIT Delhi and DTU as potential auditors. Officials also announced no transfer of PWD staff during the monsoon as the department monitors 194 high-risk locations closely.
