Odisha Battles Rising Waters: Mass Evacuations Amid Flood Threat

The Odisha government has undertaken a large-scale evacuation of residents from vulnerable zones in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts, as the rivers Subarnarekha and Budhabalang overflowed into nearby villages.

A red alert had previously been issued in the districts, and rescue operations led by the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and the Fire Service are currently in progress.

Heavy rains and water discharges from neighboring Jharkhand's dams have intensified the flood threat. Schools have been closed, and efforts are directed towards immediate relief and repair of breached riverbanks.
