Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) introduced its latest contribution to India's maritime defense—Pollution Control Vessel (PCV) Samudra Prachet. Official sources revealed that this launch strengthens the Indian Coast Guard's coasts' environmental protection and pollution response capabilities.
Director-General of the Indian Coast Guard, Parmesh Sivamani, highlighted the vessel's strategic importance in preserving marine ecosystems during the launch event in Goa. GSL Chairman Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay emphasized the platform's role in advancing maritime environmental preparedness. With 72% of its components sourced locally, Samudra Prachet supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Designed with two side-sweeping arms and a modern radar for detecting and managing oil spills, the 114.5 meters long vessel is engineered to recover oil across the full viscosity spectrum, storing it in onboard tanks. Manned by 14 officers and 115 sailors, the PCV is set to bolster India's coastal pollution control infrastructure.
