The Environment Ministry in India has launched a specialized COP-33 Cell to manage both the professional and logistical requirements for the 2028 United Nations climate summit, where India aims to play host.
The official directive, dated July 15, notes that the COP-33 Cell will operate under the ministry's Climate Change Division. This initiative is spearheaded by the joint secretary of Climate Change and includes a team of consultants and support personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's bid to host COP 33 during COP 28 in Dubai. If finalized, it would be India's second time hosting such a conference since COP 8 in 2002, positioning it prominently in global climate discussions.
