Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Friday morning, leading to disruptions in vehicular traffic and suburban train services along the Western Railway, according to authorities. Additional showers are anticipated later, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has forecasted 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall across the city for a 24-hour period commencing at 8:30 am.
An 'Orange' alert has been issued for Mumbai and its adjacent districts except for Raigad, which remains under a 'Red' alert. Despite a similar alert on Thursday, rainfall was moderate. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s Monsoon Report shows rainfall averages of 29.40 mm in the island city, 29.44 mm in Eastern suburbs, and 18.88 mm in Western suburbs.
IMD's Colaba and Santacruz observatories measured rainfall at 22.4 mm and 23.9 mm, respectively. While the Central Railway network remains functional without issues, certain suburban trains on the Western Railway run 10-15 minutes behind schedule. In light of the heavy rain forecast for Mumbai and neighboring districts, police advise residents to remain indoors unless essential, avoid coastal areas, and drive with caution. 'Our officials are on high alert and ready to assist,' alerted Mumbai police on X.
