Devastating Romania Floods Claim Lives and Cause Havoc
Severe floods in eastern Romania resulted in two fatalities and damaged thousands of homes. Helicopters searched for stranded villagers, as hundreds were evacuated. Floodwaters affected 25 villages and blocked access in several areas. Emergency services reported extensive damage while the Environment Ministry noted record high water levels.

In eastern Romania, severe overnight flooding has led to the deaths of two individuals and inflicted widespread damage on homes, according to official reports on Monday. Evacuations were carried out, and helicopters were deployed to rescue stranded villagers.
The deluge affected 25 villages across nine counties, with Neamt and Suceava suffering the most. In these areas, intense rainfall and gusting winds removed roofs, uprooted trees, and obstructed national roads. Two rivers overflowed, contributing to the devastation, and leaving Brosteni village completely inaccessible.
Emergency services later confirmed a second fatality, an 85-year-old woman who was recovered from a riverbed by firefighters. With some rivers reaching unprecedented levels, repair efforts including bridge reconstruction are underway, stated the Environment Ministry's water management agency.
