In a grim turn of events, thirty individuals have lost their lives as torrential rains battered Beijing, according to reports from the official Xinhua news agency on Tuesday.
The fatalities occurred in the northern mountainous districts, with Miyun reporting 28 deaths and Yanqing two. The heavy rains, which began over the weekend, intensified on Monday, releasing up to 543.4 mm (21.4 inches) of rainfall in the city's northern areas.
In response to the worsening conditions, 80,322 residents were evacuated, and significant damage was reported to roads and communication systems, leaving 136 villages without power. Chinese President Xi Jinping initiated comprehensive search and rescue efforts, underscoring the government's commitment to minimizing further casualties.
