The Ujani Dam in Maharashtra's Solapur district is nearing full capacity at 97%, pushing the irrigation department to release water. The heavy monsoon rains have filled the dam significantly, leading officials to manage potential overflow.
The dam is crucial for water supply to Solapur and partially serves the Pune and Satara districts. With a total capacity of 117 TMC, it's typically filled by August in normal rain years, but this year's rains have accelerated that timeline.
The current water release rate stands at 70,000 cusec, ensuring safety and adequate water distribution downstream, as confirmed by the Ujani dam project executive engineer Raosaheb More.
