The Jharkhand Forest Department has launched a major initiative to relocate 35 villages from inside the Palamau Tiger Reserve (PTR) to provide a better environment for the tigers. Officials confirmed the relocation of residents from three villages to areas outside the reserve to minimize human-animal conflicts.

A spokesperson noted that the process, targeting a complete resettlement over the next three years, has begun with the relocation of residents from Jaigir village. The effort comes as part of broader conservation measures to increase the tiger population in the reserve's core area, which spans over 414.08 sq km.

Notably, the PTR once hosted a robust tiger population, which has seen a decline due to factors such as human encroachment and diminished prey. The department is also organizing awareness programs on International Tiger Day to emphasize the importance of habitat protection for tiger conservation.
