In a significant conservation achievement, the tiger population in Assam's Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has surged by 44 over the past two years, reaching a total of 148, a new report reveals.

The report titled 'Status of Tigers in Kaziranga, 2024' highlights notable growth across divisions, especially in the Biswanath Wildlife Division where 27 new tigers contributed to the figures, marking a milestone for the reserve as it now becomes the third highest in terms of tiger density globally.

Strategic habitat expansion and advanced wildlife monitoring technologies, including camera traps and electronic surveillance systems, have been pivotal in this success, enhancing anti-poaching measures and opening up more landscape for tiger habitats, officials state.
