The Odisha government is set to embark on an ambitious plan to reintroduce tigers in Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Bargarh district, according to senior officials from the Forest department.

In celebration of National Tiger Day, Prem Kumar Jha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) announced that Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is being considered for tiger relocation, having received approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority. A committee will evaluate the site to designate core and buffer zones for the new habitants.

While past initiatives, like the relocation in Satkosia Tiger Reserve, faced hurdles, the project remains hopeful. Efforts are ongoing in Similipal Tiger Reserve and future plans aim at restoring tiger presence in Satkosia. The latest survey found 30 Royal Bengal Tigers in Odisha, signaling urgency in preservation efforts.
