The Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) announced that there is no threat of a tsunami to the Indian coast following an 8.7 magnitude earthquake off Kamchatka's East Coast in Russia on Wednesday.

The ITEWC bulletin stated that, based on pre-run models, India faces no danger from the significant temblor. The centre said it will not release further bulletins unless new information emerges.

The quake, one of the world's most powerful, did create small tsunami waves in Japan and Alaska, with subsequent alerts issued for Hawaii, North, Central America, and the Pacific Islands stretching south toward New Zealand.
