The Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, has mandated the company overseeing the Parwanoo-Dhali four-lane project to compensate Rs 5.61 crore to a family affected by a building collapse near Bhattakuffar, prompted by a landslide on June 30.
An enquiry led by Additional District Magistrate Pankaj Sharma identified the project's hill-cutting work as the cause of the landslide. The panel, formed on July 4, submitted its findings by July 18, supporting the compensation directive.
The building's collapse was anticipated, with residents evacuated prior, preventing casualties. Despite early warnings by owner Ranjana Verma, concerns about the instability due to construction went unaddressed until this directive.
