The recent deaths of three lion cubs in Amreli district have spurred the state Forest Department into taking immediate precautionary steps, according to officials on Wednesday. This tragic event, involving two deaths on July 28 and another on July 30, led to the isolation of three lionesses and six cubs for blood sample collection.

State Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera announced the swift deployment of veterinary experts from Junagadh to collaborate with local forest officers in addressing the situation. The isolated animals' blood samples will undergo thorough analysis to ascertain the cause of death, expected in the final report.

Previously, two lion cubs were rescued near Kagvadar village but succumbed to weakness and pneumonia. This prompted more extensive health checks for other lions in the region. Forest officials also recall a 2018 outbreak of CDV, which emphasized the current vigilance among wildlife authorities in ensuring lion health is monitored and outbreaks managed promptly.
