Tragedy has struck Gujarat's Amreli district as three lion cubs have died within three days, raising alarms among wildlife officials. In response, authorities have isolated several other lions for precautionary health checks and blood sample analysis.

The deaths occurred on July 28 and July 30, according to State Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera. In a prompt reaction, veterinary experts from Junagadh were called in to assist. Senior forest officials are actively engaged in the on-site investigation, with hopes that blood analyses will shed light on the cause of the fatalities.

Back in 2018, a similar crisis saw 11 lions succumb to a combination of canine distemper virus (CDV) and protozoal infections within a month. The highly contagious CDV attacks animals' immune systems, often proving fatal. Officials fear a recurrence of this threat, prompting urgent health checks.
