Delhi has experienced its best air quality in seven years this July, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) falling to a 'satisfactory' level of 78, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced on Thursday.
Remarkably, this year's AQI was even better than during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown when pollution levels decreased due to reduced movement and industrial activity. Previously, July AQI levels ranged from 84 to 134 between 2018 and 2024.
This July also recorded the highest number of 'satisfactory' air quality days in recent years. The CAQM attributed this improvement to favorable weather conditions and collective efforts to curb air pollution, with aims to maintain and enhance this progress.
