Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district has witnessed another tragic elephant attack, claiming the life of Jatphok Sawin, officials confirmed on Friday. This incident, occurring between 9 and 10 pm on Thursday in Thalot village, marks the third elephant-related fatality in the area within just one month.
The series of unfortunate events began with the demise of Kapchen Rajkumar, a former Khonsa North MLA, on July 9 during a morning walk. It was followed by the death of 46-year-old tea garden laborer Dhiren Tati at his residence. Each incident underscores the looming danger posed by wild elephants in the region.
Chief Conservator of Forests Chimoy Simai acknowledged the significant challenges faced by the forest department, including acute personnel shortages and the difficulty of monitoring elephants in dense forests during their most active nighttime hours. Measures such as 24x7 patrolling, firecracker distribution, and construction of strategic defenses are in place to mitigate risks.
