The Delhi government's latest directive aims to tackle the city's burgeoning e-waste problem by integrating stringent disposal requirements into all procurement and service contracts. Officials, on Saturday, reinforced the mandate as part of a comprehensive strategy to promote environmentally responsible waste management.

A senior-level meeting, chaired by the Chief Secretary, echoed the need for these regulatory measures, citing the urgent necessity for scientifically sound disposal practices. This initiative comes in response to the capital's challenge in managing nearly two lakh tonnes of e-waste annually, lacking proper recycling facilities.

Highlighting a progressive step forward, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa recently proposed the establishment of India's first dedicated e-waste park in Hilambi Kalan. The projected facility will address the region's recycling deficit, slated to process a substantial 51,000 metric tonnes of e-waste on its completion.
