In a dramatic incident, a historic building partially collapsed in Maniktala, north Kolkata, injuring three people. The 200-year-old structure had long been labeled unsafe, but ongoing legal disputes among heirs stalled any demolition efforts.
The collapse sent the rear portion of the building crashing onto an adjacent house, leaving two children and a woman injured. Neighbors rushed the injured to ESIC Hospital in Maniktala.
Adding to the impact, a nearby parked vehicle was reduced to debris under the rubble of the old building. Local officials had placed warning notices, but inevitable legal challenges delayed safety measures.
