Beijing has issued the highest alert for heavy rainfall in its hilly districts, advising residents to stay indoors as weather forecasts warn of up to 200mm of rain in a six-hour period. This follows the city's deadliest floods since 2012, which recently claimed dozens of lives.

The tragedy sparked by unexpected torrential rains left at least 44 people dead, with many victims trapped by rising waters at a nursing home in Miyun district. In response, Beijing admitted shortcomings in its contingency planning for extreme weather events.

Currently, six districts remain at high risk for flash floods and landslides, as Beijing's mountainous topography exacerbates these dangers. Meanwhile, in southern Guangdong, five more lives were lost to heavy rains, highlighting the widespread impact of severe weather this season.
