In a tragic incident, twenty peacocks were discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in Tumakuru district, Karnataka, on Monday. The state's Forest Minister, Eshwar Khandre, has mandated an immediate investigation, to be led by the Deputy Conservator of Forests.
According to officials, the deceased included three male and seventeen female peacocks. Local farmers in Hanumanthapura village, who stumbled upon the grim scene in a field, promptly notified the police. Authorities swiftly arrived at the scene alongside forest department officials to initiate inquiries.
Expressing his concern, Minister Khandre referenced earlier wildlife fatalities. He emphasized the urgency of this probe, instructing the investigation team to explore the possibility of pesticide poisoning. The minister demanded a comprehensive report within five days, with a promise to pursue legal action based on the findings.
