Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday directed the State Disaster Management Authority to submit a detailed report on school and hospital buildings requiring repair or demolition, following safety concerns.
During a high-level meeting, Vijayan emphasized the urgency of the task, demanding a comprehensive submission from authorities within two weeks. A press release highlighted his instructions for safety inspections of unaided school buildings.
The announcement comes in the wake of incidents such as a toilet complex collapse at Kottayam Medical College, resulting in the death of a 52-year-old woman, and the electrocution of a student in Kollam district. The Chief Minister also unveiled plans for a digital platform to monitor unsafe buildings and underscored the need for an electrical safety inspection protocol.
