Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled a state-of-the-art residential complex for parliamentarians, comprising 184 multi-storey flats, symbolizing a new chapter in housing standards for Indian MPs. Located close to Parliament House, this modern facility aims to alleviate the long-standing issue of housing shortages among members of Parliament.
During the ceremony, Modi took the opportunity to emphasize the celebration of India's cultural diversity within these residences, encouraging MPs to observe regional festivals and engage in cleanliness competitions. He highlighted the importance of unity and sustainability by naming the towers after eminent rivers, countering criticisms that attempted to politicize the initiative.
The environmentally-conscious design adheres to GRIHA 3-star rating standards and complies with the National Building Code of 2016, fostering energy conservation and waste management. Designed to be self-reliant, the complex ensures MPs have access to modern amenities and sufficient space for both residential and official functions, ultimately allowing them to better serve their constituents.
