Hurricane Erin Intensifies: A Threat to the Atlantic
Hurricane Erin, the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season, has intensified into a Category 4 storm. Currently northeast of Anguilla, Erin threatens the northern Leeward Islands and could impact the U.S. East Coast. Heavy rainfall and dangerous swells are expected in various regions through the weekend and early next week.

Hurricane Erin, marking the commencement of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, has rapidly strengthened into a perilous Category 4 storm, as reported by the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Saturday.
Positioned 120 miles northeast of Anguilla, Erin is unleashing maximum sustained winds of 145 mph, generating swells that will impact the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and the Turks and Caicos Islands this weekend, according to the NHC.
The approaching swells are projected to reach the Bahamas, Bermuda, and eventually the eastern United States coast early next week. Additionally, the hurricane is expected to bring significant rainfall across the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico through Sunday.
