Mumbai was drenched by more than 200 mm of rain in just 11 hours on Tuesday, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), causing havoc in India's financial capital.

The city received 37% of its normal August rainfall over a 54-hour timeframe, the BMC revealed. The India Meteorological Department predicted even more heavy rainfall for Mumbai and issued a 'Red Nowcast Warning' for the area.

Rainfall data highlights areas like Vikhroli East and Marol receiving significant downpours. BMC's pumping stations, all equipped to handle millions of liters of water per second, have been pivotal in managing the subsequent flooding, operating continuously over 700 hours.
