The Delhi High Court on Tuesday emphasized the need for a single civic agency in the capital to efficiently manage various urban issues. The bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Manmeet PS Arora pointed out the chaotic mismanagement among existing bodies responsible for roads, sewage, and garbage management.
The court noted that, similar to the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), there should be a centralized agency covering the entire city. It stressed the importance of organized management by citing examples of mismanagement with storm water drains under different administrative bodies.
In response, the Delhi government's counsel mentioned the Integrated Drain Management Cell as the overseeing authority, but the bench found this inaccurate, urging swift action for a consolidated civic agency model. The next hearing is scheduled for September 3 to review the progress.
