The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Mumbai under an orange alert, forecasting significant rainfall for August 20. The metropolis and its surrounding areas experienced heavy downpours on Tuesday, with streets turning into rivers, emphasizing the annual challenges faced during the monsoon season.

Commuters endured hardships as heavy rains inundated railway tracks, disrupting services on the Central Railway's main and harbour lines, while flights faced delays. Educational institutions, government, and semi-government offices were closed, and the Bombay High Court operated for only half the day due to the weather conditions.

The IMD also declared a red alert for Raigad and the ghat areas of Pune district for Wednesday, while hinting at improved weather in Mumbai from Thursday. Neighboring districts like Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg will remain under an orange alert, while some parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha might receive light rain.
