Punjab faces a worsening flood crisis as heavy rainfall and water releases from the Pong Dam inundate areas along the Beas and Sutlej rivers. With over 64 villages already affected and thousands of acres of agricultural land submerged, residents are grappling with severe disruption and potential crop losses.
Efforts are underway to manage the situation. Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Goyal has been visiting affected locations, and district administrations, in coordination with the Bhakra Beas Management Board, are regulating dam inflows and outflows. Despite these measures, several regions remain under threat from rising waters.
In the hardest-hit areas, such as Dheera Ghara, community members are taking action to bolster defenses, including reinforcing embankments. Government officials are conducting relief operations, setting up medical and veterinary camps, and monitoring the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
