Gujarat is grappling with a severe flood-like situation as heavy rains battered its coastal districts, forcing evacuations in several low-lying areas. The worst hit was Mendarda taluka in Junagadh, which recorded a staggering 331 mm of rainfall within 12 hours, according to officials on Wednesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more downpours in the coming days, raising concerns of further flooding. State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported significantly high rainfall in other regions, including Keshod taluka. Porbandar, Navsari, and Valsad also witnessed substantial rainfall, escalating the need for swift rescue and relief measures.
Multiple teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to affected areas. Rivers and reservoirs are overflowing, submerging nearby villages. Authorities have suspended transportation services and instructed schools to remain closed. Rescue operations continue as several are stranded, including students and teachers in Porbandar district.
