Torrential rains unleashed chaos in Rajasthan on Friday, leading to two deaths and widespread flooding across districts like Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Kota, and Bhilwara. Officials have reported several areas submerged, complicating life for residents.
In Sawai Madhopur, the old city's Palli Par area saw homes inundated due to a record 254 mm rainfall within a single day, according to Jaipur's Meteorological Centre. A crucial culvert on national highway-552 collapsed, causing significant traffic disruptions.
Bhilwara's Bijolia faced 170 mm of rain, overflowing the Panchanpura dam and worsening the Eru river's situation. In Kota, authorities released 25,000 cusecs of water by opening three gates of the Kota Barrage. Despite lifesaving efforts, the heavy downpour resulted in tragic incidents. A man's birthday celebration in Ajmer turned fatal when he drowned at a dam, and in Jaipur's Chaksu, the Dhundh river swept away a motorcycle-riding couple, leaving the wife missing. Authorities have issued an orange alert for imminent heavy rainfall in several districts.
