Crisis in Syanachatti: Efforts Underway to Control Artificial Lake Overflow

Officials reported a two-foot decrease in the water level of an artificial lake in Syanachatti, Uttarkashi, formed due to a blockade in the Yamuna River caused by falling boulders. The incident, first noted on Thursday evening, led to flooding in the town situated on the Char Dham Yatra route.
The sudden flooding has submerged a local bridge, hindering transport, and inundated over 40 houses and hotels. As relief efforts continue, about 300 residents have been relocated. The State Disaster Response Force, along with other local agencies, are attempting to channel the water safely.
The State Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun has engaged various departments to ensure essential supplies reach the affected. Monitoring continues via drone as directed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has called for the urgent resolution of this crisis and ensured the availability of necessary commodities.
