Electric vehicles have been given a significant boost with the state government's announcement of a toll exemption on the Atal Setu, India's longest sea bridge, connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
The Urban Development Department's notification confirms that electric four-wheelers and buses, including those operated by state and private players, will benefit from the toll waiver. This decision was made under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Tax Act of 1958.
After applying partial changes to a previous January notification, the exemption serves as an incentive for eco-friendly transport options on the crucial 21.8-km link inaugurated in January 2024. Extensive public interest underpins the move which becomes effective at Shivaji Nagar and Gavan toll plazas.
