Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a new chapter in West Bengal's infrastructural development by laying the foundation stone for the 7.2-km six-lane elevated Kona Expressway in Howrah. With a budget of Rs 1,200 crore, this significant project is poised to improve connectivity among Howrah, its surrounding rural areas, and Kolkata, ultimately saving travel time and providing a substantial boost to trade, commerce, and tourism in the region, according to officials.
The day's events marked a turning point as Modi also inaugurated three new metro routes in Kolkata. Among them is a pioneering direct link to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, further enhancing the city's transport infrastructure.
The Prime Minister ceremoniously waved a green flag to signal the commencement of operations on these new routes, underlining the government's commitment to improving urban mobility and regional development.
