The Delhi government has unveiled an ambitious plan to replace conventional streetlights with smart LEDs, a move projected to save over Rs 31 crore each year. This initiative, outlined by PWD minister Parvesh Verma, will upgrade nearly 45,000 conventional HPSV lights to modern LEDs, enhancing illumination and extending lifespan.

By adopting this energy-efficient technology, not only will electricity and maintenance costs be significantly reduced, but accountability and efficient monitoring will be ensured through a mobile app and centralized dashboard. This system will allow real-time performance monitoring and defect fixing.

A noteworthy feature of the plan is its EMI payment model. Under this framework, the private company responsible for installing the lights is paid monthly only post-installation and operational verification, ensuring responsibility for performance and timely maintenance. The initiative promises transparency and improved public service delivery.
