The Delhi government's Public Works Department (PWD) has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance pedestrian safety by focusing on the maintenance of subways and foot over bridges (FOBs). The plan, discussed on Thursday, aims to address the long-standing issues plaguing these crucial pedestrian infrastructures.
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma's recent inspection revealed various flaws in existing structures, leading to the decision to hire a company for the repair and upkeep of six key subways in the city. This first phase will see improvements at Shastri Nagar, Saraswati Vihar, Rohini Court, Inderlok, Wazirpur, and Britannia Chowk.
The department intends to improve safety features, including proper lighting, security personnel, and CCTV cameras. Initiatives are also underway to address theft-related issues by deploying security guards. This round-the-clock security will be enforced in eight-hour shifts, aiming to ensure pedestrian safety across Delhi.
